Tax Aide Program

Tax Aide Overview

Since 2008, WSCAT has offered free AARP Tax-Aide to help tribal families file their taxes correctly. Our staff are trained each year, so they are up to date on tax changes and can answer general tax questions.

The program provides an affordable option for lower-income individuals to file their taxes. We aim to do outreach to reach those who could qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit and other credits, but may not file their taxes otherwise. The majority of those who file taxes receive a refund and we are bringing money back into the community.

  • More than 25% of people who prepare their taxes with WSCAT each year qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Oregon EITC, Child Tax Credit, and/or Oregon Kids Credit.

  • More than 80% of those who file taxes through our program are Warm Springs tribal members, many of whom do not have an Oregon tax liability.

We generally start accepting tax appointments in January and offer tax preparation services on Tuesdays and Thursdays from February through April. Our program is operated by appointment only; due to the high demand we cannot serve walk-in customers.

To make an appointment, call the WSCAT office at 541-553-3148. Time slots are allocated on a first-call, first served basis.
