Wyam Youth Center & Theater
In Development, Set to Open June 2025
The name “Wyam” is the Ichishkiin word for Celilo, which was the hub for economy, trading, commerce, entertainment and socialization for the Columbia River Tribes and we chose this name because we feel it is culturally appropriate and that it matches our intent for this space. It will be the centerpiece of our workforce and entrepreneurship youth programs hosting our youth film club and offering work experience opportunities around filmmaking, business management and customer service.
The youth center will screen a variety of films that will cater to a number of different audiences in our community. We also recognize our community’s interest in live sports, so we plan to host watch parties for football, basketball, baseball, etc. This includes professional, college and even high school sports watch parties for those who cannot attend those games. We will also include gaming related entertainment as well.
The space will serve as a meeting and educational training space during daytime hours and be available to rent for parties as well. We plan to put in a raised stage for live entertainment for things like music/karaoke, comedy, fashion shows, etc. We will have computers with video production software available for public use and provide a green screen and camera set up for community members or departments to host podcasts or shoot portrait photography.
