Waurica Miller first joined WSCAT’s summer youth workforce program in 2022, the first year WSCAT managed its own youth program. She came in as a quiet individual.

At the end of the summer program, Waurica went to start her senior year at Madras High School. She participated in the first Financial Education class that was offered to all Native seniors.

In March 2024, Waurica re-joined WSCAT as a sewing intern as part of the Namegiving project. This project was perfect for her because she has always had an interest in fashion design. She learned about ribbon skirts, the grass dance, and fancy outfits. She also learned new sewing techniques and has been able to take what she learned to teach others. She continues to sketch dresses, chaps, and chaffs around the office.

While participating in our internship program, Waurica also had the opportunity to learn and grow in a variety of areas, including completing CPR training and taking on a leadership role. She has helped teach sewing classes for the namegiving project and led ribbon skirt classes for a fashion show.

Her artistic growth also includes participating in WSCAT’s film program, participating in the development and acting in our youth film: The Recipe. As part of the program, she attended the LA Skins Film festival where the film received an award.

She has served in various capacities as an intern at WSCAT, all of which are related to her passion of creating art. Over the last couple of years, Waurica has grown and developed a lot into a more outgoing and passionate individual. In 2025, she even won Miss Warm Springs for all her contributions to the community.
